Ist das so gewünscht oder wird es wieder aktiviert?

Ich bin da Ergebnis offen. Nur wie es weiter geht würde ich gerne wissen.
Ich gehe mal davon, das das alte GenWiki nicht mehr in betrieb geht.
Nur könnte man beim Aufruf der Seite https://wiki-alt.genealogy.net/ statt einer Wartungsmeldung einen Hinweis geben, dass es eben abgeschaltet ist mit einem Link zur aktuellen Version.
Problem ist durch die Dinge wegen dem DjVu wurden öfters Personen darauf hingewiese wurden eben das alte Wiki zu nutzen. Das ist auch deswegen zu Teil hinfällig, weil ja fleißig der Umzug statt findet.

Die klicke ich, weil für Normalos unverständlich, meistens weg.

Die uralte Version des GenWiki, also vor dem letzten Update, war immer noch unter der Adresse
https://wiki-alt.genealogy.net/ zu erreichen. Bitte das Wort „-alt“ im Link zubeachten.
Wenn Du dort nichts eingetragen hast dann ist alles noch da. Wobei das auffallen sollte, wenn man im falschen GenWiki war, denn über jeder Seite war ein roter Hinweiskasten.

@Wolfgang_Fahl, das wäre eine Information, die wir den Benutzer geben sollten. Ich weiß ja, dass Du intensiv und erfolgreich an der neuen Ersatzlösung für das djvu arbeitest, aber wir waren uns ja auch einig, dass die neue Testversion für die Masse der Benutzer nicht überstürzt fertiggestellt werden soll. Bis dahin bliebe https://wiki-alt.genealogy.net/ der einzige Workaround für die Endbenutzer, die solche nicht mehr vernünftig ladenden djvus brauchen.
Wenn Du gar nichts mit der temporären Abschaltung von https://wiki-alt.genealogy.net/ zu tun hast, wäre eine Information, wer dann zuständig ist, im Sinne der Endbenutzer hilfreich.

Hallo Christopher, bisher habe ich mich um das wiki-alt nicht gekümmert, da ich davon ausgegangen bin dass es 80% technisch keine Vorteile bringt. Meiner Kenntnis nach funktionieren unbundled DjVus im aktuellen MediaWiki 1.35 noch. Für welche Zwecke wird der noch ältere Stand noch benötigt?
Es bräuchte eine Sitzung mit Robert, um zu klären was es mit dem älteren Wiki auf sich hat. Wir fangen uns mit einer Bereitstellung aber natürlich auch reichlich Folgeprobleme ein, so dass es zumindestens eine andere Meldung geben sollte.

das wiki-alt ist ja unter diesem Namen freigeschaltet worden, um für zwei ärgerliche Mängel der aktuellen Produktivversion (1.35) den Benutzern einen workaround anzubieten:
- Das djvu-Problem (extrem lange bis „unendliche“ Ladezeiten) für viele djvus
- Die nicht mehr funktionierenden Namensverbreitungskarten, die auf Basis von geogen (Stöpel) erstellt wurden.
Das war ja bereits schon länger der Stand der Dinge, als Du ins GenWiki eingestiegen bist (also ungefähr als die Konferenz in Halle stattfand). Beides wird ja mit der zukünftigen GenWiki-Version behoben sein und die grundsätzlichen Lösungen existieren ja inzwischen. Aber wie schon gesagt …
Warum das genwiki-alt im Juli 2025 oder kurz davor abgeschaltet in Wartung gesetzt wurde und vom wem, ist unklar. Deiner Antwort entnehme ich, dass Du nichts damit zu tun hattest. @robertpaessler, weißt Du vielleicht mehr?

Du verweist hier auf genwiki39.genealogy.net . Das derzeit produktive Wiki ist aber https://wiki.genealogy.net. Und da ist doch noch gar nichts upgedatet worden (oder doch), also wieso sollte das schon lange bestehende djvu-Problem jetzt dort behoben sein?
Oder möchtest Du sagen, dass genwiki39 nun als workaround für Nutzer dienen sollte, die auf die bekannten djvu-Probleme im produktiven genwiki stoßen? Dass also genwiki39 das wiki-alt als workaround ablösen soll? Ich versuche einfach die Argumentation zu verstehen.
Im genwiki39 funktioniert Dein neuer DjVu Viewer gut - das ist richtig. Aber die Migration aller Vorlagen, in denen djvu-Dateien referenziert werden, auf den neuen Viewer ist meines Wissens noch nicht abgeschlossen. Oder müssen wir die Vorlagen gar nicht mehr anpassen, sondern die interne Umleitung auf den „neuen Viewer“ funktioniert automatisch, sobald versucht wird, ein djvu anzuzeigen?
Falls Du Beispiele suchst, die im derzeitigen Produktiv-Genwiki nicht funktioniert, nimm z. B. dies

Die Seite erscheint klagslos nach einigen Sekunden. Das liegt an dem vorhandenen Thumbnail https://wiki.genealogy.net/images//thumb/4/46/Provinz_Rheinland_1888.djvu/page23-6753px-Provinz_Rheinland_1888.djvu.jpg
ist also nur eine Frage der abgerufenen Pixel-Grösse. Genau diese Thumbnails fressen aber Speicher ohne Ende - insgesamt fast 3 Terrabyte.
Das Beispiel ist andererseits keineswegs überraschend. Mit über 2600 Seiten gehört diese Datei zu den Top 2. Ich bekomme die auf keinem der Compgen Cloud Systeme in benutzerfreundlicher Zeit bearbeitet oder dargestellt. Das ist auch auf der genwiki-alt docker Kopie nicht anders zu erwarten. Auf dem RWTH Server und bei mir im Keller sind die Zugriffszeiten passabel. https://djvu-viewer.wikidata.dbis.rwth-aachen.de/djvu/Reichs-AB-1920-2.djvu?backlink=https%3A//genwiki39.genealogy.net/index.php%3Ftitle%3DFile%3AReichs-AB-1920-2.djvu braucht einige Sekunden zum laden und ca. 2 Sekunden zum blättern.

Eben nach einigen Sekunden, bei manchen erscheint rechts nur die Thumbnails und die eigendliche Seitenfläche bleibt. Es scheint auch einen zusammenhang zum Browser zugeben.
Ich bin es etwas leid im Ticketsystem anfragen zubekommen, das es da alte nicht gibt. Und jedesmal die Erklärung machen zumüssen wie man mnit externe Programme doch lesen kann. Frist einfach Zeit.
Geburtstag können wir auch schon bald feiern. Erinnert mich an die Sache mit dem GOV-Problem.
Im Video ist zu sehen, was die Zeit kostet. Im alten Wiki Wartezeit: 20 sek. Im neuen: 2 sekunden. Bundling dauert wenige Sekunden, Vorbereitung dazu ca. 1 min bei 178 Seiten. Müssen wir noch etwa 1600 mal machen, dann ist alles repariert. Dabei werden etwa 1 Millionen Bildseiten und 3 Terrabytes von thumbnails aufgeräumt und danach geht hoffentlich so einiges flotter. Bin auch genervt, dass ich diese Thema seit 1 1/2 Jahren mit nur langsamen Fortschritt beackere. Angesichts des anstehenden Lösungsvorschlags möchte ich vermeiden mich mit dem genwiki-alt auf cloud basis beschäftigen zu müssen. Das ist nämlich auch nicht mehr das genwiki alt. Die ganze Infrastruktur hat sich längst geändert.

Solange die Umstellung aller DjVu-Einbindungen (siehe oben) nicht weitgehend komplett ist, können wir doch nicht auf wiki-alt verzichten. Dann hätten wir zwar ein „proof of concept“, dass man mit dem neuen DjVu-Viewer arbeiten kann, aber noch keine Lösung für die Endbenutzer.
Meiner Ansicht nach sollten wir den Domain Eintrag wiki-alt.genealogy.net löschen.
