Wiegehts!

Hi! I am trying to locate family (Lilienthal) which dates back to the 17th centtury in Neuendam near Scharmbeck. My grandmother's name was (Marie) Therese Lilienthal (married name: Engelken). She is now deceased as of 7/18/06. They lived on a farm in Neuendam which I visited back in 1976. They were mainly pig farmers to my knowledge. My grandmother had about 5 or 6 siblings, one brother was killed in WWII. Is there any help you can give me as I am trying to find out more about my German relatives for personal reasons. They were evangelicals or lutherans, so I am also open to baptismal, confirmation, wedding, or funeral records of her relatives, i.e., hinrich lilienthal, wilhelm lilienthal, etc.. Thanks for any help you can give me. Pam.

Hello Pam,

You are lucky because there is a Ortsfamilienbuch which covers that
area: Ortsfamilienbuch Lesum und Bramstedt

There are very many Lilienthals (Engelkens as well) listed there. Click
on the letter and you'll get the list.

The LDS have church records from Scharmbeck which would likely include
Neuendam:
Kirchenbuch, 1715-1852 Evangelische Kirche Scharmbeck (Kr. Osterholz)

There are today 22 Lilienthals in the German phone book if you wish to
contact any of them. You can search for Lilienthal and Scharmbeck. If you
use Neuendamm, you will get the same returns. Here's the English version of
the phonebook:

Good luck,
Barbara

It would help if you could give some approximate birth dates for your
Lilienthals. Genealogy.net has a database online for Teufelsmoor area.
Scharmbeck is part of that area. They only list two Lilienthals from
Neuendamm, Hermann and Wilhelm, born in 1827 and 1830 respectively. I have a
Familienbuch for Worpswede which contains many of the people in the parish
of Scharmbeck. Quite a number of Lilienthal's are listed but none from
Neuendamm. You might also look at Roger Engelken's database in Rootsweb.com
as he has done extensive research on Engelken's from that same area.

The LDS records that were suggested will only go to 1852 so you will need
some dates for your people before that time.

Hi Paul Scheele,

I have a
Familienbuch for Worpswede which contains many of the people in the parish
of Scharmbeck...

I studied all OFBs and the other databases on genealogy.net, but I don't
know this book. Because the Ordemann families have been living in Bremen
and many places around I wonder if some of them might also be found in
Worpswede etc. Could you have a look please?
TIA!

gut.

Grüße,
Paul Scheele
