Greetings list! I recently had a land record transcribed and translated for me, which records the land sale of my great-great grandfather Christoph Wrede to his brother in 1856. The one thing that has me stumped is: What kind of land measurment is a "morgen" and what would be the modern equivalent? The village of Stinstedt is in the former Duchy of Bremen and is 30 km northeast of Bremerhaven. I have cut and pasted the relevant section below to offer context. An "morgen" (Mg) is a historical, but also currently still occasionally used
German measure of area. While today, in approximate agreement with the
Prussian acre, it is equated with 25 ares or 2500 square metres, its area
once ranged from 1,906 to 11,780 square metres.

Hello Gail,

A „Morgen“ is an old square measure, that was normally used for agricultural areas. The measure equals 25 Ar or 2500 square meters.
