Jochim Friederich NETZBAND married Johanna Maria Henriette SOLZ and had son
Johann Jochim Christian NETZBAND who married Johanne Sophia Elizabeth Henriette SCHWARTZ 20 Jul 1855 in Stavenhagen, M-S.
Their son, Wilhelm Helmuth Friedrich NETZBAND, born about 1856, emigrated to the United States.

WHO are the parents of Jochim NETZBAND? I am stuck on finding this, and any help would be appreciated.

Any one wishing to talk about any Netzbands would be helpful. Thank you.

Cheryl

I have a question that I have been wanting to ask for some time. I have several women in the family from Mecklenburg who are named Frederica (different spellings), but they are always called "Rachel." Is this common? Can anyone explain it?

Hi,

I am not sure, but I think I remember this:
A Friederike who emigrated was written "Rieke" (abbreviation of Friederike) in the passenger lists which turned to Riechel in America and then to Rachel. Could this have happened here, too? Rachel sounding more American as Rieke?

My paternal grandmother, born in 1862 in Rehberg, Mecklenburg-Streylitz, signed mortgages etc. with her husband Herman Giffey, in Wisconsin, as Reka. She was baptized in Rehberg as Friederike. I suggest it was probably her decision to choose a nice compact given name in her new country.
