I assume thet if my great-grandfather’s name is in this publication, so it must be some archive document based on which he was included in the list.
I’d like to find this first source of information that my great-grandfather was captured but can’t understand in which archive I have to made a request.
These lists were compiled by the War Ministry to inform the population about the fate of individual soldiers. The underlying notification from the military unit to a central office about a death, a wounded soldier or a prisoner of war will in all probability not have been preserved and will only have had the character of a list.
