Turenski?

Hi,

I have heard that you can guess from what region in Poland or former
Ostpreussen a person comes from by his/hers last name? I have for some time
been trying to find the origins of Woltzick Turenski, born in 1688 in Poland
according to the church files here in Finland. He travelled to Finland
(probably via Sweden) some time before 1725, since he married in Telana
village in southern Finland where he had established himself as the village
miller (müller). I have made a wild guess: Possibly he came from the village
Turen (Thuren, Türen) in Gemeinschaft Gummingen in Ostpreussen. One reason
for leaving the region might have been the Black Death (pesten) which killed
several hundred thousand people in Preussen in 1709/10. I would be more than
happy for all ideas and suggestions on how to find the origins of Woltzick
Turenski, if possible?

Best regards,
Stefan
