Tarnowke, Kreis Flatow, Evangelical Church Records 1823-1874

Hello,

I have the Tarnowke (Kreis Flatow) Evangelical Church Records 1823-1874
on loan at a Family History Library through February, and I
can do look-ups for anyone interested in Tarnowke (Tarnówka)
or nearby the villages of:

Ossowke/Espenhagen (Osówka)
Sakollnow/Zokollno (Sokolna),
Betkenhammer (Ptusza)
Petzewo/Petzeu’o (Piecewo).
Kramske
Wengerz
Annenfeld

I don't speak German, but if you write to me in German
with the name and year of birth, I should be able to read
it using a machine translator.

I'm researching my Schallhorn and Bahr families in Ossoke,
and my Briese and Liebig families in Lüben, Deutsch Krone,
and I would be pleased to hear from anyone who is researching
these families or the history of these villages.

Best wishes,
Gail

Hi,

yes, gladly I will write you the german text and if you want also the english translation of it.

Did you write in the Names in the "Pommernkontakte"? Then you can note you ancestors in one family-tree or every family in several trees on geneanet.org, with or without dates. Then you can try in a password for you as Wizard and for your "Ancestors/Friends" a password that you can send to them.
Also you can make a request on groups.yahoo.com/ and search all districts or countries you search for, for example Flatow-L or Deutsch Krone.
You can write in english, many people understand it!

Hope I could help you a little bit.

All the best, Steffi

Hi Gail,

Thanks for your offer to check for people on the LDS film you have on loan for Tarnowke, Kr. Flatow. I am in the position of not knowing just where my great-grandmother and her sister were born - none of the US records have anything more specific than Prussia, so I've been searching town by town.

If you will be so kind as to check for the following names, it will help, as I can either cross Tarnowke and the other villages off the list of places to check, or their birthplace will have been found.

ZOIKE (or ZOEGE), Wilhelmina, b 5 Jul 1858
ZOIKE (or ZOEGE), Caroline, b 30 Jan 1860

Caroline was my g-gm, and Wilhelmina was her sister. I'm not sure of their parents' names, but possibly Julius and Wilhelmina, as that was reported on one death certificate. However, other info given at that time wasn't exactly accurate, so those names are questionable.

IF you should happen upon their names among the baptismal records, please look for other members of the ZOIKE/ZOEGE family also. I know there were one or more other siblings who remained in Prussia when Caroline and WIlhelmina emigrated with their husbands to PA, but I do not know any names.

Thank you so much for checking for these names. I am most appreciative of your time and offer to help.

  Janet (in PA)

Hi Janet,
I was a little concerned to read of your hopes of finding the correct
location in Prussia (despite your earlier success!) - it was a BIG place.
Have you really exhausted all sources in the US? Old Church books may give
some hints of places of birth etc. I wonder if you have viewed any of the
videos here? http://tracingroots.nova.org/ They emphasise getting hold of
every possible document to find even the tiniest clues.
If you perhaps list what documents you have obtained already, others may
give you hints of where else you could look? Often several families from
the same village were on the same ship for example. You may be lucky and
find your location in Prussia by chance, but it will be far easier to scour
the wealth of documents most people left behind in the US.
Good luck,
Bronwyn Klimach

I recently ordered a copy of my grandmother's SS application, hoping to
find mention of the town in Prussia where she'd been born - all other places
I've checked did not yield that information, just Prussia or Germany. No
luck, just "Germany" again.

If only I had insisted that Grandma tell me the town where she was born,
but when she was alive, I didn't know to be that persistent. She only told
me East Prussia, near Danzig. Big area, as I've learned. However, even
going town by town, I managed to find her father and his siblings, and learn
his parents' names. Unfortuntely, Grandma and her mother weren't from that
town. So far no US records have yielded the birthplace name, either.

I've written letters to all the families in Germany with her mother's
surname, hoping to find a connection, but got only one "possible" hit. I
learned the birthplaces of that family's ancestors, but did not find my
family in those areas either. However, now that I'm aware of this other
alternate spelling, I will recheck those films. I might prove that
connection yet!
