Date: Sat, 7 Sep 2002 11:17:24 -0500Might I suggest that you check the newspaper collection at the State Library
of Michigan....
they have some information ON LINE...which is a nice thing....
I if they are the owner of the info, I do believe that you can purchasemicrofilms
of some of the papers....
I hope that you are lucky enough to find what you want there.......

Subject: Re: [HN] Fw: The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton CountyDo you know if the Public Library of Cincinnati has preserved old copies
of
19th century German-American newspapers?I have been searching for newspapers published in Memphis, TN (my home
town) for a rather large German community in the city at the end of the19th
century. The Memphis-Shelby Co. Library gave me a list of these G.A.
newspapers, copied from the book by Carl Arndt and May Olson,
"German-American Newspapers and Periodicals." In particular, I have been
searching for "Deutsche Zeitung" published in Memphis by Louis G. Fritz
because he was a friend of my grandfather. The catch is that it seemsno
copies of these old newspapers have been preserved, not even in the US
Newspaper Project at the University of Tennessee.I located a copy of Dr. Arndt's book, and learned that "Deutsche Zeitung"
was part of his private collection of German newspapers which he donated
to
the American Antiquarian Society in Worchester, MA. This society tellsme
that they do not have Dr. Arndt's collection, because they only accept
newspapers dated before 1876. What has become of this collection? The
college in Worchester where Dr. Arndt was head of the German Departmentin
the 1960s does not have his newspaper collection.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information about collections
of
19th century German-American newspapers. Thanks for listening to this long story,
Cora

Hello,
Do you know anything about
a) the German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten", published between
1916 and 1969 in Breda / Wall Lake, IA by L. Huendling and after 1937 by
Dirk Aden?
The Iowa State Historical Library doesn't have them. The microfilm for the
issues between 1882 and 1915 is known.
b) the German newspaper "Anzeiger des Westens" from the late 1800th until
the early 1900th?
Sincerely,
Hans-Georg Boyken
