I am looking for a town that sounds like FRIEDELBURG other than FREIBURG.
My SONNTAG ancestors may have origins in that town. If anyone can give me a
lead or some towns that sound like Friedelburg, I sure would be beholding to
them.
Hi Beverly,
There is more than one town called Friedeburg. One is in Hannover
--northwest of Zetel and Varel and east of the Aurich. I'm never really
sure of the borders for Oldenburg- it could be there or maybe the area of
Ostfriesland.
Do you have evidence of Hannover as the place of origin? There are
other Friedeburgs (and other similar names) in areas other than in the
Kingdom of Hannover.
Barbara
I hate to expand your area of search. There is a Friedeberg in Kreis Friedeberg in Pommern. However, to make things more difficult, during the 1800's it was in a district called Brandenburg, not Pommern.
Also in German, the ie may sound like a long e in english. Be careful--your English spelling of the word may not be what you are looking for. If you have it from a written document, I would tend to go with that spelling.

There is no town in Germany like FRIEDELBURG, but there are (in Germany of 1935):
4 FRIEDEBURG, 1 FRIEDENSBURG, 2 FREDEBURG, 1 FRIEDENBERG, 3 FRIEDEBERG, 4 FRIEDBERG and 2 FRIEDEBACH.
Without further information it will be quite difficult to find the right one.
I would like to make a public thank you to all the folks on this list that responded to my query -- there were so many.
Shows you how generous the genealogical community is and how willing to help others.
You folks are the best.
Thank you very much. I've got alot of new good leads and will follow up on them.
Thank you again,
Beverly Mack Zanon
Looking for my elusive SONNTAG ancestors
You may have looked at the emigration archives for Sonntag. There are
3 Carl's listed. Two are in the Wolfenbüttel records with a date of 1847.
One Carl is in the Hannover records from Uslar.
Using the spelling of Sontag, there are several in the Wolfenbüttel
archives. They all come from Amt Holzminden:
PERS Sontag, Anna 8952
PERS Sontag, Carl 8946
PERS Sontag, Carl 8952
PERS Sontag, Carl Friedrich Ludwig 8951
PERS Sontag, Caroline Auguste 8949
PERS Sontag, Caroline Louise Auguste 8947
PERS Sontag, Friedrich Carl 8948
PERS Sontag, Heinrich 8952
PERS Sontag, Heinrich Friedrich Carl 8949 (1867)
PERS Sontag, Hermann 8952
PERS Sontag, Marianne 8950
PERS Sontag, Marianne 8952
PERS Sontag, Marie 8952
PERS Sontag, Mathilde 8952
PERS Sontag, Otto 8952
PERS Sontag, Pauline 8952
Some of those are listed with a date of 1849. Another is 1867. I know
this is a long shot, but maybe there would be someone you are looking for.
