My Great Grandfather, Albert SCHWEDLER , b. 20 Sep 1852 Mecklenburg,
Germany. M. (date unknown) Dorathea (surname possibly GARNETZ) b. 23 Aug
152 in Wulfersdorf, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Brandenburg, Germany. Son Rudolph
Gustav SCHWEDLER b. 2 Nov 1879 in Wulfersdorf, Ostprignitz-Ruppin,
Mecklenburg, Germany. Son Otto SCHWEDLER b. 16 May 1881 possibly in
Wulfersdorf, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Mecklenburg, Germany. Family emigrated to
USA out of Hamburg on the steamship GELLERT in Oct 1882 settling in Racine
County, Wisconsin, USA. The family was accompanied by Friedke (Frederike)
b. abt 1825, who is possibly Alberts mother and Rudolph (possibly Alberts
brother) b. abt 1858 in Mecklenburg, Germany. Alberts father may have
been named Johann.
The family was Lutheran by faith and attended St. Peters Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Waterford, Racine, Wisconsin, USA
The surname of SCHWEDLER was listed on the ships manifest as SCHWEDLICH.
Questions:
1. Could Wulfersdorf, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Mecklenburg, Germany actually
be in Brandenburg, Germany?
2. I have located a Johann SCHWEDLER, wife Friederike SCHWEDLER living in
Altenhof, Ritteramt Lübz . They were located on the 1867
Mecklenburg-Schwerin Census. Albert is not listed, however, he would have
been 17 years old at the time and may have left home to be on his own at the
time. Could this have been the family of Albert SCHWEDLER?
3. The same 1867 Mecklenburg-Schwerin census has an Albert SCHWEDLER,
b.1852 working as a knecht at the residence of Johann MEIER and his wife
Maria MEIER in Dorf Ganzlin, Domanialamt Lübz Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Could
this be my great grandfather?
4. Dorf Ganzlin and Wulfersdorf, Brandenburg appear to be fairly close to
each other. Are they close enough for Albert and Dorathea to meet in the
1870s?
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I have a contact in
Berlin and can send her a copy of this post if you need someone that speaks
German better than I do.
