SCHWALM in einem Liegnitzer Adreß-Buch

To DonnaTom2:

Dear Donna:

Since I do not have your complete e-mail address I am sending this to you via
our Silesian e-mail address. (Your address appeared as just "DonnaTom2").

Sorry, but there is no Jankowski branch in my family tree. I sent this
message to Andreas SCHWALM not because I have SCHWALM in my ancestry but
because he and I are both researching in the Liegnitz area and we exchange
information when we run across each other's family names.

Here is the English translation of my e-mail message to him, to which you
referred:

Quote: "The family name SCHWALM in an Address Book (city directory) of the
city of Liegnitz."

"Greetings Andreas SCHWALM:

In the Liegnitz City Directory for 1881 I found just by chance:

Page 52 at this address: Anger Street Number 4 (435V), on the first floor,
the name Carl SCHWALM, worker. I am not sure what V. means here ("entry in a
list or census?") The other residents in this house were: Ernst FISCHER,
Ernst BURKERT, Wilhelm HAUPTFLEISCH, Wilhelm BEUTEL, Ewald BRACHMANN, Joseph
JANKOWSKI,shoemaker, and Heinrich HITZIGER.

"Was this Carl SCHWALM perhaps your great-great-grandfather Carl Friedrich
SCHWALM?

"I photocopied only four pages of this address book (including page 52 when I
did family research in the library of the University of Wroclaw (formerly
Breslau) six years ago. On page 52 I found a certain Christiane LANGE living
at number 6 Anger Street. She was possibly my great-greatgrandmother. On
page 110 was my grandfather (Wilhelm) Heinrich MANN, furniture-maker,
residing at number 42 New Hainau Street.

Greetings from San Diego, California, Merriam Mann Moore. End quote.

Donna, I suggest that you watch on our Silesian Mailing List for messages
which mention Glatz, Breslau and Waldenburg. There are many active members
of the list who have located much information from that area. Write to them
in English, and quite a few will respond in English. Be sure to include as
much detailed information about your ancestors as possible. Be sure to
include also your complete e-mail address and your ancestors' religion.

Good luck!

(Mrs.) Merriam Mann Moore
