Request for assistance

Genealogy Friends,

I am trying to assist my daughter-in-law, Bonnie, in trying to get
information about her grandfather's roots in Germany. We have very little
information about him.

His name in German was Ludwig Karl (or Carl) Knopp. In America he was known
as Charles Knopp. He was born in Posin, Germany. Another Family Bible shows
it as Pozen. I wonder if in German it could have had the odd shaped (to an
American) double s? He was one of eight children. Bon's Dad, William Fredrick
Knopp was born in America in 1901, near Baltimore. William Frederick's oldest
sibling was born in 1892. From that, I would guess that Ludwig Karl was born
about 1870, give or take a few years.

Does anyone recognize the town, Posin (or Pozen)? That would be the first
thing we would need to know.

If anyone knows the location, do you have suggestions about how to contact
the nearest church (probably Lutheran), or town records?

With the wonderful assistance of Thorsten Kaatze in my Granddad's part of
Germany (Frille), I was able to track three of my great grandfathers back to
the 1600's. Now Bonnie thinks I am an expert (which I am not - - probably
just lucky). If there is any way I can help her, I would love to do it.
