Rehe & Kroger Families

Jan,
My husband and I were in Neuenkirchen the end of September. One of the things we did was go to the Neuenkirchen Cemetery to find a memorial dedicated to Fr. Joseph Duerstock. He was a priest and pastor of the German Old St. Mary's Church here in Cincinnati for about 25 years. I have information that he purchased bells for his local Church in Neuenkirchen. (My husband is part of Fr. Joe's very extended family).

We had a black a white picture of very poor quality of this memeorial. It says it is in the Neuenkirchen Cemetery. We probably spent almost an hour looking for it so we could get a better picture, but we were unable to locate it.

I know that graves, etc. are not preserved indefinitely like they are in the U.S., but we were really hoping to find it and were disappointed not to be able to locate it.

You live in an incredibly beautiful area. We were lucky to Have Wener Honkomp take us around the area and identify locations that were specific to us.

Some of my family members went to Leese in the 90's and took photos of their home town. I asked why there were very few cemetery stones and plots for our family, and I was told that the land is reused for new graves. There is not enough land to bury everyone in a new permanent plot.
