Re: Translation of occupation

Would anyone know the occupational meaning of "bütterführer"? My g g
grandfather born in 1812 in Hessen has that occupation listed in the baptism register
in the 1840's? It is not in LEO. My distant relatives still living in the
same village do not know the meaning. Thanks for any help.

Hello:
I have information, saying my ancestor was born in the Province of
Calenberg in the District of Hanover, year 1802. Where is Calenberg? I am
interested in what records available for Calenberg? Is this a military
district? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Doug

Hi Doug,

If you do a google search on Calenberg, you will find a lot of
historical data that is very interesting.

The LDS (from a place search) has a lot of microfilm on Calenberg,
Hannover. Doing a LDS person search will yield some names of royalty from
centuries ago.

Have fun,
Barbara

Hi Doug! My family came from this area as well. I don't know the boundaries. Our part was sometimes referred to as Southern Calenberg or Amt Lauenstein; I have seen both areas referenced on old maps. The towns my family lived in were Marienhagen, Thuste, Duingen and Diensen. These are little communities west of the Liene River, a few km northwest of Alfeld. The largest town of any size in the area was Hildesheim. Hope this helps.
