Jane Swan...... In view of what you have explained re Prussia/Hanover
   etc. How can I check that my ancestor a Fredrik Andree came from
   Celle Hannover or another place as being Zelle or Zella Prussia.
   Fredrik Andree was writen down as coming form Zelle or Zella Prussia
   and written elswhere as coming from Zella Germany ? I have no records
   of Fredrik Andree's birth or his parents but would like to find out
   more if i can.

   If any one has any ideas of how to obtain a list of persons (and their
   families) who went to (Ceylon)) Sri Lanka from Prussia/Hannover as my
   ancestor Fredrik Andree went to Ceylon(SriLanka) around 1750s,
   possibly before. He married Anna Maria Douwe in Colombo, Ceylon(Sri
   Lanka) in 1759.

   I am also researching another ancestor namely Godfried Koch born 11
   Sept-1734 in Alt-Rippin,Brandenberg,Germany, he also went to live in
   Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) If anyone has any info on same I would be most
   pleased to hear from you.

   I am trying to trace my family roots from Prussia and Germany and
   would love to hear from anyone who may have info on the above. Thank
   you for any help or info you can give.

Also the place Celle in earlier times often can be found written Zelle. Besides
there are not one , but at least three Zelle in Germany. I checked these for
Andree in 1995 and found only in Celle, Hannover bearersof the name:

- ANDREE, H.-J., Dr.med Kinderarzt, M�hlenstr.9, 29221 Celle, Tel.05141 24400
     private living place Celle-Lachtehausen
- ANDREE, Klaus, Zur B�nte 33, 29227 Celle, Tel.05140 84830

So, one should say Celle is the most probably place.

     You may already be familiar with this from a library in Sri Lanka:

     Also, have you checked the LDS records? They have many microfilms of
Celle. If you are near a LDS center, you can order the films and read them
there.
