Hallo Armin,
You have had another little helper here :-)) Did you know that you can
search the 1880 census on www.familysearch.org and have thousands of results
for all of America or just one state of America by not inserting a surname?
This way you find entries where no surname has been typed because it must
have been illegible. There are many results for "George" but there are less
if you search for Jennie and give George as the head of the household - this
method would have no results if Jennie died before 1880. I too could not see
your family but possibly I missed seeing them. Maybe your family travelled
back to Germany to visit family.

Hi Rena

I know about the 1880 census at the LDS Church, the problem is he must be
wild misspelled as Harthourfff or whatever, so i use since 2 years only the
method to search a person with his first name at ancestry com.

For example i use George in the 1880 census and the year of birth, whats the
next problem cause in the 1850 Census they say he is 5 so he must be born
around 1845 and in the 1900 census they say he is born around 1848.

But even George is terrible i found variations of George. Geo, Georges,
Georger, Goerges, Gorges and so on.

And so i thought it might be easier to look for the children but Frederick
is the same problem, and August not much better and the first son of George is
George!!!!

And Jennie yes i tried Jennie Jen* but nothing at all.

Maybe they really travelled back to visit the old family but then they
should be in a shiplist. And i told you, you find George only in 1850 and 1900 he
can not be in Germany in 1860, 1870 and 1880. Same procedure with his boys
nothing at all in 1910, 1920 and 1930.

Sometimes such researches are really not easy. How easy would it be here in
Germany to go to the church and look into a churchbook!!!!!

Thank you so much

Armin
