How does a person go about finding out what town in Mecklenburg their
ancestors came from? No documentation says what town in Mecklenburg just
Mecklenburg. Is this like looking for a needle in a haystack especially
when the name is Meyer?

Another suggestion is the check out the origins of the persons living in the
place where they settled. I've noticed that the Germans tended to
'cluster'......they liked to go where they had family or friends. And they
often traveled on the same ship when they emmigrated. Perhaps 'someone'
either on the ship or in the town was a little more explicite about their
hometown. The US church death records for these immigrants often gave more
than just 'Mecklenberg' as the birthplace. So look beyond 'Meyer'....
