  Purmela is West of Waco about 45 miles. Its not broken 100 yet

grandparents,Heinrich Frederich Gerhard Wessels 21March 1883,Frieda
Backhus 26 May 1896.
  My Great grandparents, Anton Backhus 13 August 1872,
Friedarike Mier 12 August 1871.
  My Great,Great Grandparents,Frederich Wessels (birth unknown),
Elise Kruse (born 1856 died 6 April 1924)
  All info I have states that grandparents were both born in
Oldenburg, however before my eldest Uncle passed away he told me that
Grandpa was from a village named Varl or Varrel. Any information you
can give me or direct me to would me most appreciated. My
grandfather and grandmother and her parents(Backhus and Mier) left
Bremen on 30 September 1909 and arrived in Galveston,Texas,
U.S.A. on 20 November 1909 aboard the ship Cassel. Again
I thank you for any time you can spare for me. Helene Wessels born

Greetings!

So far, no luck with the Varel CD. Frustrating. There are soooooo many
Wessels. I had found your query on Ancestry.com and checked earlier. I
just checked again. Nothing. The CD is still available if you want a
second opinion. :slight_smile:

Are you aware that there is also a place called "Varrel"?

Hi,

There is another Varel near Bremen. today part of the the community of Stuhr. There are also a lot of Wessels/Wessel.
My GGmother also is a born Wessel.

Please have a look ath the online family book of Stuhr at genealogynet.de.

Hi,

Not to confuse the issue even more, but there was a Varrel near
Langförden, which is in the Catholic diocese of Vechta. The town no
longer exists. My grandfather was born there in 1864 according to the
Baptism certificate in St. Laurentius Church.

Knowing the religion of your ancestor may help to determine which Varrel
you are looking for. The area around Langförden seems to be very
Catholic, but others may have better information on that subject.

Many of the church records are available through the LDS Library. I
have had great success using the LDS Library for my ancestor’s records
in the Vechta Diocese. I struggled for about 6 years trying to find the
correct towns with all the different spellings. The good members of
this email list pinpointed where to look.
