Hi Werner,
I found some information, but not everything. I just did a quick look for
each child so you'll want to verify any information I found.
It seems like the first travel below was of the son Johan Henrich born in
1799. The ages match. Was he a school teacher too?
The second travel seems to be the father and the youngest daughter. John
Henry's age was listed as 58 (i.e., 1779) and Marianne's was 22 (i.e.,
1815).
Other family members seem to have come over on the ship Ontario on July 2,
1832 to Philadelphia. There was a Francis A. Raba (age 27, i.e., abt
1805), Elizabeth Raba (age 27, i.e., abt 1805), and Joseph Raba (age 29, i.e.,
abt 1803). The last family member is Clemens, and I couldn't find a ship
record for him.
The family seems to have gone to Cincinnati first. The Cincinnati City
directory for 1839 lists a Henry, Athem (Anton?), Clemens and Joseph Rabe. I
think the sister is there too since she was married in Cincinnati in 1838
(I assume you're also aware of the Friedrich Honkomp - Bernardina Rabe
marriage at Holy Trinity in Cincinnati on Feb 3, 1842). You can view or
download Cincinnati City Directories (for free) from 1830's to 1941 with just a
few years missing at
_http://virtuallibrary.cincinnatilibrary.org/virtuallibrary/vl_CityDir.aspx_
(http://virtuallibrary.cincinnatilibrary.org/virtuallibrary/vl_CityDir.aspx) . These directories are very good because they are
searchable.
Johan Henrich (1799) doesn't seem to show up in the census (maybe 1850).
I also can't find a marriage record. There seems to be a Johan Heinrich
who dies at about the right age in Cincinnati on November 11, 1860 at age 63
(St. Paul's).
Joseph seems to have ended up in Indiana. He's in Knox County, Indiana
(Vincennes area) in 1850 with his family (age 50). Wife is Mary E. (age 38),
children: Mary E. (age 13, b. OH), Dorothy (age 10, b. OH), Joseph (age 4,
b. Iowa). The father Henry also appears to be there (age 71). Joseph
(age 58, b. Oldenburg), wife Mary E. (age 45, b. Hannover) and son Joseph (age
13, b. Illinois) are in the same town in 1860. It seems to be them.
Franz Anton and wife don't seem to show up for sure anywhere in the census
or the Cincinnati records.
There's a Clemens Rabe marriage to a Catherine Shillis at Holy Trinity in
Cincinnati on Feb 2, 1835. There's a Clemens Rabe in the 1840, 1850 and
1860 US Census in Cincinnati. In 1850 there is Clemens (age 43), Catherine
(age 56) and Clemens (age 13). Clemens seems to have died on Aug 20, 1855
at age 48, buried from St. Paul's in Cincinnati. The 1860 Census Clemens
(age 23), Catherine (age 19), Catherine (age 1) and Catherine (age 63).
Clemens (jr) seems to have gotten married to a Catherine Kuhlmann Nov 11, 1856
at St. Paul's. Clemens died Dec 26, 1869 at age 32y, 11m from St. Paul's.
Clemens' mother Catherine seems to have died on Mar 29, 1868 at age 76 (a
little off) from St. Paul's. In the 1870 Census there's a Catherine Rabe
(age 30), Catherine (age 12), Mary (age 8), Anna (age 4) and George (age 6
mo).
Maria Anna Rabe seems to have married Francis Inderrieden on Aug 28, 1838
at Holy Trinity in Cincinnati. He is probably the same Franz Inrieden from
Damme who was on the ship she and her father took to the US. She and her
family seem to have moved to Indiana with her brother Joseph. In 1850 a
few houses down from Joseph was a Francis Endonden (age 41), Mary A. (age 38),
Francis (age 9, b. OH), and Joseph (age 7, b. Illinois). This doesn't
seem like such a good match, but in 1860, the same family is Frank Inderrieden
(age 46, b. Oldenburg), Mary (age 24), and Frank (age 19).
Hope this helps. Good luck,
Don

Hello Don,
thank you for the information.
The first travel of Johann Henrich Rabe I have, but he came back to
Steinfeld about 1833.
New for me is the secound travel with his dougther, this is great and
helps a lot.
This record could be his secound wife:
- Magret Rabe, 71 (*1770), from Hasden(?)-Oldenburg to Cincinnati
on the ship REBECCA, arrived Baltimore on 14.Sep.1841
The next question is; where this couple lived and which date they died.
Also the other children of him. I understand this will be difficult.
I checked all US census records without success.
Thank you,
Werner
Hello Werner,
At least part of the family came to Cincinnati.
There was a J.H. Rabe who was a school master that arrived in
Philadelphia
on the Adler on September 5, 1832 (age 33).
John Henry Rabe arrived in Baltimore from Steinfeld (destined for
Cincinnati) on the Ernst & Gustav on September 25, 1837. It appears at
least his
daughter Maria Anna accompanied him.
There are death and census records in the US (not just in Cincinnati).
I do use the Cincinnati website listed below sometimes, but it is very
incomplete, and the German names are often incorrectly. There are much
more
complete local indexes.
What exactly are you looking for, or just general information?
Thanks,
