Might be silly question. I am curious about the given name Gesina. I have seen this name only with my ancestors from K.O.H. The given name Adelheid I have only found with them as well.
Anyhow,
I am wondering what, (if any) name Gesina might be in English.
Hi Barbie,
In Northern Germany Gesina is a (not very, but) frequent name derived from Gertrud(e)/Gertraut, a Germnanic name, while Regine/Regina is from Latin "the queen".
Adelheit (in all varieties as Adelheid, Alheit,Altje, Alke etc.) was one of the most common given names, starting in the Middle Ages, and still today you can find it.

Little comment:
Werner answered already your question. Accidentally the woman candidate for
our next federal president (Bundespraesident) is Mrs. Professor Gesine
Schwan. If she will be be elected, many new Gesines and Gesinas will be
baptized!
Regards Helmut.
