Posting to list:
I am searching for the parents and/or siblings of Johann Lorenz Rietzler born 03 March 1839. In April 1863 he left, from Hamburg, on a ship to Brazil, South America. Traveling with him were Josef Gritsch, Agnes and Mary Cecelia Tablander. According to the ship's listing of passengers their last residence and/or birthplace was Silz, Tirol, Austria. Two years later (1865) they were all living in Geneseo, Henry Country, Illinois U.S.A. Joseph was married to Mary Cecelia and John was married to Agnes.
On films of Silz Verfachbücher records I have found the will of Edmund Rietzler who died in 1815 in Silz at age 63. By his first wife, Eva who died in 1793, he had Joseph, Jacob, Elizabeth and Brigitta. His second wife, Barbara Egg (widow) produced Alois, Lorenz and Peter Paul. Edmund lived on Maingasse St. in Silz and owned land very near Petersberg Castle. He was a master carpenter and apparently was quite wealthy. I strongly suspect that he may be the grandfather of Johann Lorenz Reitzler but I have no proof.
I have found later records of Silz land transactions (1827-1829) between Joseph and Lorenz and, currently, I am having more documents translated.
If anyone can help me find more information, please contact me at: nancy.reitzler@verizon.net
Best Regards, Nancy Reitzler
