That August Paulmann has these dates: 1827-1909

Mistake!

Sorry about that--obviously that August Paulmann would probably not be
yours since he died in Hannover. I am presuming the August Paulmann you are
referring to is the one born in 1850 and in the 1880 U.S. census living in
Indiana.
I can't be positive, but I think the Ebstoff referred to is Ebstorf near
Uelzen. Maybe that August Paulmann had a son who emigrated?

Barbara

Thanks,

My grandfather, Henry August Paulman of Ohio, was the son of August Paulman (Paulmann). August Paulmann emmigrated to the US in 1860 from Hannover, he settled and died in Ohio. He is listed in a number of census and I have good information about him. His father was listed on August's death certificate as August Paulmann. His father August Sr is who I search for.

I suspect just as the name changed from PaulmanN to Paulman that the first/middle names were changed also. It seems this family liked to use several middle names and frequently went by the middle name of their liking. With that said it would not surprising to me that for either grandfather that August may or may not be their true birth names.

Hi Jay:

I did a 37 year sweep of Castle Garden and found only 5 people with the Paulmann name, and none with Paulman.

Do you know his occupation? There were 3 Heinrich, one of whom was a weaver, one was a young son and the occupation or the third was unknown. The weaver was born 1830 and the son 1858. They came on the ship "Doctor Barth", an unusual name.

The Auswanderer Hauptstaatsarchiv Hannover lists four Heinrich Paulmann's. Their registration numbers are in pairs, which would correspond to the two listed in Castle Garden.
