Dear Hannover List,
I am trying to find out how to access the Osten church Parish Records that
were not filmed by the LDS. They have 1715-1726, 1746, 1751-1752, 1759-1763,
1765-1772, 1773-1852, 1874-1875. Unfortunately, despite all these years
available, I really need to find 1860-1861 to verify that this is really the
correct parish and great-grandmother's birth entry.
Does anyone know how I could access a birth entry for Elise AHLF in Osten
parish, 18 April 1860 or 18 April 1861? (Parents: Christian or Claus
Christian AHLF, Katherina RICHTER)
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Katherine
Hi Katherine,
There is a website listing the Evangelical churches in Hannover. Try
this for Osten:
http://www.hist.de/yoste.htm
It will show you what records there are for Osten. At the end is an
email address for someone who does look-ups. Probably you will have to pay
something for the research. But it should be minimal if that is all you
need.

Be calm and understand that sometimes there were and still are floods and
fires and that records were and are destroyed ----- and thus not available
for filming. I hope that you find yours. My really important ones are ALL
among the missing in USA, Ireland and Germany!
Maureen
Dear Katherine,
The records that have been filmed by the LDS Family History Library are the
duplicate civil records that were produced by the parish church in Osten. I
believe that these records were filmed in the Niedersachsen archives in
Stade. The actual Kirchenbuch records may still be located at the parich
church in Osten. You must contact the local parish to access these records.
This is true for almost all of the parishes in this part of Hannover. I
have ancestors from the parishes of Lamstedt, Basbeck, Hechthausen,
Oldendorf, Oerel, Selsingen, Mulsum, Bevern, Bargstedt, Heeslingen and
Harsefeld. The LDS films for all of these parishes in most part are only
available for the years 1715-1726, 1746, 1751-1752 and 1759-1852. These are
all copies of the civil records.
I wish you success and luck in your research,

Dear Katherine,
The address below can be found in the German phone book. You might like to write to the priest or phone him and ask where the church books can be found.
