Hello Cindy,
KAUFMANN is an occupation (businessman, shopkeeper etc.) as well as a Last name. That's very common (about 1/4) that a last name means an occupation (SCHNEIDER, BAUER, BÄCKER, SCHMIDT, FISCHER etc.).
