Has anyone heard of a Olnburg Germany? It is in an old Obituary that
Catherine Maria Kerk was born on November 1, 1826 in Olnburg Germany and
came to America when she was 8 yrs.
Maybe this is just a typo for Oldenburg? Any suggestions?
Thanks for assistance.

Hello Lisa,
the low german speaking for Oldenburg was formerly like Olnborg, therefore ist could be Oldenburg.
But the name Kerk is in Oldenburg not present. There is a concentration in the Emsland/Lingen area, near the Netherland border.
The emigration book for Lingen county listed one name:
- Franz Heinrich Kerk, born 17.Dec.1859 in Espel, emigrated 1867
There is also listed some Kerckhoff/Kerkhoff.
I hope it helps,

Werner,
Thanks for the info., yes it does help and makes sense. The newspaper the
obituary came from is in an area with several low German speaking settlers.
Thanks again and have a great day!
