Oldendorf, Lintig, Hanover, BEHRENS, WINTJEN, BASSEN, and RADEMAKER

Hello, I have just discovered this list, and I am hoping to find some
information about my ancestors' families. My great-grandfather Hermann Behrens was
born in Oldendorf May 14, 1847 to Hermann and Catharina Rademacher/Rademaker
Behrens. He came to Jersey City, New Jersey USA by 1874, or soon after,
when he married Catharina Wintjen, formerly of Lintig, Hanover. Her parents
were Herman Wintjen and Margaretha Bassen Wintjen. I have some of the old
documents about their births from the birth and baptismal book of the Parish
Ringstedt, Lutheran Confession.

Is Oldendorf in Hanover? I know there is a city Hanover, but is it also the
name of a larger area? Would Ringstedt be a town? Does anyone have
suggestions about how I can get more info?

I also have a Certificate of Discharge from the Prussian Subservient
Association for Jakob Wintjen dated 1871, when he was 16. Could anyone tell me what
that was?

Hello Paula,

There is a town called Ringstedt which is east of Bremerhaven and
south of Bad Bederkesa. There is a church in Ringestedt and the LDS
(Mormons) have microfilms of the church records:

Kirchenbuch, 1715-1852 Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Ringstedt (Kr. Lehe)

Kirchenbuch, 1715-1852 Evangelische Kirche Ringstedt (Kr. Lehe)

North of Ringstedt is the town of Lintig --it is even smaller and I
don't see that there is a church there. One could guess that they went to
church in Ringstedt to the south --- or Bad Bederkesa to the northeast:

Kirchenbuch, 1715-1852 Evangelische Kirche Bederkesa (Kr. Lehe)

There are several Oldendorfs in Hannover, but the one nearest to this
area is east of Stade.

Kirchenbuch, 1715-1852 Evangelische Kirche Oldendorf (Kr. Stade)

All of these church records are incomplete--some years are missing. If
you are near a LDS center, you can order and view the records there.

You might search for your names on this website:

Good luck,
