[OL]Suedlohne Church Records

Okay, I found Suedlohne but the LDS doesn't show any
church records from there. Does anyone have a
suggestion as to in which town I should look for those
records. I'm thinking Lohne. LDS has a Hamberg
church records but Im not sure that it is the correct
Hamberg. Any help would be appreciated.

They wouldn't as they don't have a parish there. I should say
didn't until 1958. Südlohne was a Bauerschaft or farming
community of only a few farms until recent expansion of the
city of Lohne. It only has had a chapel which claims to have
miraculous cures.

Just for your interest as it involves your ancestry, the legend
goes like this: back during the crusades a returning warrior
found a healing spring there and he then built a small Klus or
Klause where others could also worship and pray for cures.
All this was near the major travel path from Bremen to
Cologne. So many people stopped there. The chapel was
first written about in 1518. The Countbishop of Münster gave
this chapel to the local family von Dorgelo who resided on
the Brettberg estate. During the 30 Years War, (1610-48) like
most things, the chapel was destroyed. In 1680 the family
built an octogon shaped chapel which was torn down in
1874. The chapel actually had a resident pastor (Rektor)
from 1684 to 1742 but from then on all services were held by
priests from the main parish of St Gertrud in Lohne. In 1949
one of the original holy pictures from the chapel of St Anna
Selbritt was found and a new chapel was built once again.

Thank you so much. What a great help you have been.
I love the legend too.

Thanks,

Barb
