[OL]Struving-Kenkel

Hi
.
I'm still working on proving my family records. In the book Dinklager
Familien there is an entry under Strueving for this marriage -- Joh. Hein.
Strueving oo Cath Kenkel on the 10 Aug 1774. I cannot find this record on
the films that I have of the records of St. Catharines, Dinklage from the
LDS. Is there someone who could check this for me?

Also there is a record for a Joh. Hein. Strueving on ? Oct 1774 to an Elis
Kenkel and her death is recorded on ? Nov 1800 44 yrs. The days are missing
on the film. It looks as if the page could not open flat and therefore the
dates did not record. I am having trouble finding her birth. There are many
Kenkels and from the information on her children's birth records she is Elis,
Maria Elis, Anna Maria Elis. and Anna Elis. I think this is the correct
marriage.

Is there anyone else interested in the Kenkels?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Marcy

In response to Marcy's request for others researching the Kenkel line
from Dinklage:

My Third Great Grandfather GERHARD HEINRICH KENKEL was born in May 1791
in Dinklage, and was baptized on 16 May 1791. His parents were BERNARD
HEINRICH KENKEL and MARIA ZUMBAHLEN.

GERHARD married MARGARETHA ELISABETHA ESPELAGE, daughter of WESSEL
ESPELAGE and ANNA ELISABETHA DIECKSTAL, on 1 Jun 1824 in Dinklage.
MARGARETHA was born in Mar 1802 and baptized on 15 Mar 1802 in Dinklage.

Their son BERNARD GERHARD ANSELMUS was born on 19 Apr 1825 and was
baptized on 21 Apr 1825 in Dinklage. He died on 22 Mar 1892 in
Cincinnati, Ohio at age 66 and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery.

BERNARD married KATHARINA HENRIETTE HÜVE, daughter of JOHANN HEINRICH
HÜVE and ANNA MARIA AGNES SEHLHORST, on 22 Jun 1852 in Dinklage.
KATHARINA was born on 29 Jan 1834 and baptized on 31 Jan 1834 in
Dinklage. She died on 13 Jul 1910 in Cincinnati.

BERNARD was listed as a passenger, without his wife and children, on 4
May 1874 to Baltimore as a farmer on the ship "Nuremberg" from Bremen.
Where were his wife and family in 1874? Maybe it's a different Bernard
Kenkel.

They had nine children: CATHARINA MARGARETHA AGNES, AGNES, KATHARINA,
RINA, BERNARD F., HEINRICH F., JOSEPH F., BERNARDINA, and ALOYSIUS.

CATHARINA MARGARETHA AGNES KENKEL was born on 12 Apr 1853 and baptized
on 15 Apr 1853 in Dinklage. She died on 8 Mar 1942 in Cincinnati and was
buried on 11 Mar 1942 in St. Mary's Cemetery.

We have further info on the descendents but are still searching for
siblings, cousins, etc. Source documentation is also available.

Doug,

My NIEHAUS family are Price Hill Cincinnatians. My grandfather Joseph A
NIEHAUS (1870-1941) and grandmother Clara BRINKER N. lived on Scioto St.,
then on Magnolia, above Music Hall. They moved to Suire Ave. off west 8th
St. in POrice Hill in the early 1900's.

A neighbor and good friend of my grandfather was Joe KENKEL, along with Adam
NICOLAI. Both of them and their families lived on Suire Ave. and were
members of St. William Parish.

I have photo copies of a weekend outing the men had in Millhousen, IN in
1910, including Joe Kenkel.

Could this be your Joseph Kenkel?

Regards,

Bob

Bob,

There's a real good chance we're talking about the same Kenkel family.
Joe's mother Katharina died in June of 1910 and the place of death
listed on her death certificate is 844 Suire Avenue. In fact, most of my
family lived in and around Price Hill in those days. My parents were
married at St. William's in 1945. I'd sure like to see that photo. Does
he look to be about 43 years old?

JOSEPH F. KENKEL, Birth: 1867 - Oldenburg, Germany, Death: 3 Dec 1956 -
Cincinnati, Ohio.
He appeared on the census in 1920 in Ohio, Hamilton Co., Green Twp.,
Place of Abode: 4104 Harrison Pike.
His obituary was published in the Enquirer on 3 Dec 1956, pg 9:2, and in
the Post pg 20:4
Spouse: MATILDA(1872 - ), Daughter: KATHERINE KENKEL(1907 - )

Doug,

The two pictures of the gang on the Millhousen outing show Joe Kenkel as a
big man in his middle years, one on frontal view, one in profile, a roman
nose, large mustache, dark hair. I belive one of Joe Niehaus' wedding
photos has Joe N. and Joe Kenkel as young men together.

I heard often, as a boy in the thirties about the Friday night pinochle card
game sessions at one of the group's houses (just the men of course) with
cigars, beer and bourbon, plus ham and smoked tongue sandwiches served by
the wife of the host. Pre TV times had their fun, too!

I have these digitally saved on disks. If you can download photos sent as
attached files I will attewmpt to send them that way, prescanned by Norton
Anti-virus program.

Bob,

Let's give it a try, but no need to send it to the Oldenburg-List. Do
you know how to find my e-mail address?

Doug,

I found in my research file folder for my visit in April 2000 copies of
several histories of parishes in Franklin and Decatur County IN, from the
Batesville Public Library.
There is one, <the Story of Millhousen> about the town and Immaculate
Conception Church history with a plat of lots and their owners dated 1882.
I was not sure if you had ancestors who lived there.

You may have been to the Batesville library also. It has great archives of
such histories in their genealogy section.

Bob

Bob,

Yes, but not from Germany. If you notice the name FISH or LOGUE in your
copies, I'd like to know about it.
One of these days, I'll plan to visit the library in Batesville, on the
way to Cincinnati.
