[OL]Status Animarum questions

I am looking at the Status Animarum for Crapendorf (including Nottelen
and Lankum) which is included in the St. Andreas (Cloppenburg) church
records. If there is an article which has analyzed the Status
Animarum, I would like to read it!

Now that I know my ancestor, Wenceslaus Darenkamp was born about 1736
(obtained from his hard-to-read 1763 obit, which lists him as 27) and
I know that his parents are Gerhardus Darrenkamp (from Nottelm) and
Phenenna Heydgerken/Heidgereken (obtained from his marriage record to
Anna Maria Pagenkamp in 1762), I am looking on the Status Animarum
for a Gerard Darenkamp, with a wife Phenenna or Anna and a 14-year old
son, Wessel or Wenceslaus.

It isn't there.

There is, in Notteln on the Status Animarum, a Conductor, Gerardus
Darenkamp age 50, with wife Veronica, age 60 and an Anna ****Gerhardi,
also age 60. They seem to be Conductors, at least they are listed as
such, beneath a Thalen (Colonus) family. But there is no Wenceslaus.
And no Hermannus Wesselus Darenkamp, who was born in February 1734 to
a Gerd Darenkamp and Veronica Heidgerken. (would Veronica and Phenenna
be one and the same?)

The main farm in Notteln seems to be the Meyer. It begins with this
"Meyer Colonus" and then lists Elisabeth, 74, a widow, followed by
Wenceslaus, 44 (there is a "p.s.:" after his name.) followed by
members of his family and then servants. There is a Wenceslaus, age
14, listed as a shepherd, but he is not listed as a Darenkamp. Yet, he
is not listed as a Meyer, either. He is just listed as Wenceslaus, age
14, shepherd.

Were children usually enumerated with their Conductor families in
these days? Or could my ancestor have been "loaned out" to a big
family like this one, and not have been listed with a last name during
the taking of the Status Animarum?

Several other smaller families are listed as Conductors beneath this
Meyer family. No Darenkamps.

The last family in Notteln which is mentioned is the Heydgerken
family, listed beneath the Hancklaus family of Colonus Minor.

In all of Notteln, the only 14-year old boy named Wenceslaus is the
one who was a shepherd for the Meyer farm.

Thank you, Buffy

Buffy
Conductor is Latin and just another way of saying Meyer.

The main farm in Notteln seems to be the Meyer. It begins with this

You won't find the same status description everywhere. A 14 year old would not
have arrived at Meyer status anyway.

anything is possible. Adoption were not very formal back then. Peoples just sort of
grew up with someone and used the farm name.

Several other smaller families are listed as Conductors beneath this
Meyer family. No Darenkamps.

Think of them as farmers with substantial land holdings.

The last family in Notteln which is mentioned is the Heydgerken
family, listed beneath the Hancklaus family of Colonus Minor.

In all of Notteln, the only 14-year old boy named Wenceslaus is the

Then that's probably him.
