Dear Janet,
do you know the history book of New Vienna Iowa?
It listed also the Erdmann history of New Vienna.
There you can find also the history of Gerhard Henry Hellmann, born 1790 in Sevelten and the son Henry Hellmann born Sept. 24.1817 in Sevelten, Oldenburg, close to Cloppenburg in Oldenburger Münsterland. The emigrated 1834 to America first to Minster Ohio and 1843 to New Vienna and was also a founder of New Vienna.
You wrote, that your ancestors came from Lohne and must be an other Hellmann branch. I have only the church record of Lohne till 1811 at home, it listed this:
- Johann Bernd Helmann, born Sept.09.1785 in Oythe/Vechta, died Dec. 28.1854 in Lohne
parents: Caspar Helmann and Gertrus Bahlmann
married Nov.11.1818 in Lohne to Anna Cath. Gertrud Kröger (Kroeger)
The old book "Lohner-Familien" shows this:
Joh. Bernard Hellmann and Gertud Kroeger, Heuerleute (tenant farmers) by Zeller(big farmer) Luebbe-Bokern
children:
- *1820 Johann, oo 1852 to Marg. Auguste Brockhage (Salesman in Lohne)
- *1825 Klemens, oo 1852 to Juliane Brockhage (+1859), Salesman in Lohne
- *1828 Franz, oo 1859 to Bernardine Röchte(owner in Lehmden)
- *1835 Elisabeth, oo 1866 to widow Josef Bokern in Lehmden
I could be that this ancestors came from Oythe near Vechta, there was a Hellman farm:
- 1568 Gerd Hellemann, 1593 Hermann Hillemann, 1734 Heinrich Hellmann, 1767 Joh. Hinr. Hellemann, died 1815.
- After this the farm was rented out to Stüve. 1888 sells to Meyer.
The parents of Bernardine Röchte are Johann Heinrich Röchte (*1790) and Elisabeth Krümpelbeck, Zeller on Bokern
