There was a Bernard Clemens Menke born on May 29, 1872 and baptised on June
1, 1872 to Johan Friedrich Menke and Maria Elisabeth Graves bei? Wolking in
Oldorf. Oldorf is a village a little north and mostly east of Damme, but in
the Damme parish. I think the bei Wolkling refers to the farm were her
family lived in Oldorf. A small note next to the baptism seems to say the
child/family is from Langförden, which is a town north of Damme by Vechta.
The first child, Theodore, is not listed in Damme's records, and the filmed
Damme records stop in 1872, so I don't know if the later children are there
either. I would guess you'll find the family by either checking the Damme
or, more likely, the Langförden records. Both sets of records are in
Norwood.
Good luck,
Don

Menke in Langfrden could be the farm Menke/Menking in Bergstrup, parish
Langfrden, which is mentioned first in 1277. They are ancestors of my wife, and
I have the line as follows:
Johan Menking, born c. 1440 - 1470
Johan Menking, born c. 1500
xxx Menking, born c. 1530
Johan Menking, born c. 1560
This last Johan Menking had at least 2 children:
Dirick Menking, born c. 1585, married 1611 in Langfrden Anna Merpoel
from Calveslage, parish Langfrden
Hilleke Menking, born c. 1587, married 1611 in Langfrden Berndt
Merpoel from Calveslage
I have been told that there is a book "Tabeling, Karl:
Familienchronik Menke, Vechta 1988". I have never read it but I
would like to.

I'm asking the local library today about the Familienchronik Menke, Vechta
1988 Book. For now it really looks like your wife and I may be related. This
week my family will be looking at the Langforden films, which I guess you've
already done. If you don't mind saying, are you in Langforden or area now?
