I agree with Werner that you should sent cash instead of a check, for the
same reason he suggests. However, I think it is usually more appropriate to
have the money exchanged over here and send Euros. My opinion is that since
I am buying goods/services, I should be the one to incur the cost/trouble of
changing the money. Also, the dollar is a little less than the Euros now, so
you'd be shorting the person in Germany a little bit between getting less
than a full Euro for each dolllar, plus the exchange fee.
I have also sent Euros in the mail many times, and never had a problem.
