Thank you both for your help. Now I have to brush off my latin.
My father emmigrated in 1909 and he had been a grenadier in the Kaiser's
Guard. I have a picture of him in his full dress uniform. Although I don't
have the years he served I'm sure it was shortly before he came to the US.
My grandfather's obit stated that he served in the war in 1870. I would like
to know more about it.
