Occupation : Pensionair

Greetings! I am reviewing the Cramonshagen (M-L) parish records 1750-1773 (in Latin then), and the word pensionair shows up as an occupation. This is for a man who is in his 20s to 30s as these are all the baptismal records of his children. I doubt he was retired or receiving a stipend from the government at that time. Is this government work? Thanks, this list is a great help for this beginning genealogist. Chuck

he is a farmer but it is not his own land, he is a tenant, lessee, he took a lease of the land.
