Hi List Members,
This is my first posting. I am researching ancestor, Phillip SCHUTLER (born
1819-20?) born in unknown city in "Prussia" according to 1880 Kentucky Census

records.
The LDS "Family Search" site reveals several Schuetteler's from Westfalen,
Preussen in towns of Bellersen, Remblinghausen, etc..
Phillip emigrated to the United States prior to 1850, settled with his family

in Louisville, Kentucky and died in late 1880's.
Can anyone suggest how I might find more information in former Westfalen,
Pruessen area re: SCHUTLER/SCHUTTLER family?
I have been trying to find the birthplace of this ancestor for 7-years and
desperately need help.

Westfalen would not be the right topic for this list.
There should be a westfalen list.

Have you tried getting into the church records of the first
church he attended in America? One of my ancestors
records held a wealth of information, the other three did
not......but you may get lucky!

With another, we as a family were lucky enough to have
the release papers from his home church in Herzogtum
Sachsen-Koburg-Gotha. Apparently you needed these
release papers to verify your good standing in the
Christian community you were leaving to the new one!

Hello Ron: Have you checked a county history for the county in KY in which he
settled. They often had biographies of early settlers which gave birthplaces.
Another place might be his probate file in the county courthouse (not the will).
Hope this helps. Sheila S-K
