My Weismann (Weissman) people came from Germany … I know not when. My Greatgrandfather, Friedrich Conrad Weismann was born in Dec 1861 to parents Friedrich Edgbert Weismann and Sophia Lapp. His marriage is registered in Ipswich under both Wiseman and/or Weismann. I do not know if Ggrandfather was born in Australia or Germany, but family stories attest to the name change after they came to Australia ??? He (greatgrandfather) had two siblings that I have been able to locate, these being Henry August (dob 1860)and Anna Elizabeth(dob 17 Dec 1861) ??? possible twin for Friedrich ??
My BALLHAUSE connection ... Henry Ballhause came to Austalia from Prussia ... again family history says he came with a family (not his own) of musicians, he being only young, maybe a teenager. His application for naturalisation is dated 30th Dec, 1893.
His son, Joseph William Henry married Isabella Mary Louise Shaw whose father was Malcolm Shaw. Family again say that Malcolm also came from Prussia / Germany but we have been unable to find any further information on him. Personally I have my doubts about the name Shaw being of German origin ... ??
