Learning to read records in Gothic script and finding the interest groups that fit the many different areas since my ancestors emigrated from such a variety of principalities : Prussia,Brandenberg,Westfalen, Saschsen,Bayern,Schleswig,Baden,Posen and maybe more as I get farther back to 17th and 18th century ancestors.
There is a geographical overview of groups at Genealogische Mailinglisten – GenWiki. The names shown there, you should be able to select in the category picker in Discourse. This will give you categories for regional topics, where you can discuss with others.

this is not the right category for your special research.
You need to look at the Westfalen category for example,
if you are looking for your ancestors from Plettenberg.
Probably you should send what you know:

You should say exactly what you are looking for. "I am looking for the ancestors of … "
And put it in the right category ! This is a general category !
