Looking for family from Marienwerder area.Kruger and Koslowski and Sieraf.
Dear Jackie (or Pat ?),
In order to place a request you have to give more information
than just surnames.
Make sure an area (city, village) and also a time frame of your research is
mentioned. Without these, nobody can help you, and don't know where to
look.
With kind regards,
Gisela
Looking for family from Marienwerder area.Kruger and Koslowski and Sieraf.
Gisela, finally a real person. I had a nice conversation yesterday with Fred
Rump and he suggested that I suscribe to this list. I apologize for my
ignorance but I need a little help in getting started. I think I
successfully enrolled and this moring I received about 10 emails but they
were writted in German and I do not spesk German. I just put a general
message and got these responses. If you could just give me a few important
pointers on how to utilize this list it would help me.
What I do know about my family I will briefly relate to you. My grandfather
Friedrich Kruger was born in Petersdorf near Bischofswerder and Strasburg in
1886. His parents were August Kruger and Auguste Sieraf.
He had 13 siblings whose birth records and name I do have. Auguste Sieraf
parents were Andreas Sieraf and Elisabeth Wilm. All of their children
including Auguste were born in Strasburg in the 1840s up until the 1860s and
there were about 12 of them. Very large families. I also have the records of
all of the Sieraf children. Found them on Hans Jurgen wolf website
WestPreussen .de .
My grandmother was Minika Koslowski, born in Portschweiten in 1904. This
village is near Nikolaiken and Stuhm. Also not far from Marienwerder. She is
also from a large family I also have the names of her siblings and her
parents were Anton Koslowski and Katrazyna Jezerkowska.
I won't go on but if you could give me some suggestions until I am familiar
with the operation I would really appreciate that very much.
Til then,
My name is Patrick Doran and I live in Brigantine New Jersey USA. Jackie is
my wife and I signed up on her email address. My email that I also signed up
on is patdoran at verizon.net Thanks again
Hi Patrick,
Are you familiar with this site?
It is a great starting point for research - even if your family do not show
up searching the database, you can look at the library to see if records for
your location have been filmed and are available at local Family History
Centres.
You probably know that Portschweiten is now in Poland:

If records for your location have not been filmed by the Mormons they may be
available:

or if Evangelical: http://ezab.de/e/ebframe.html
Here's a starting point for your ancestors from what is Germany today:
Patrick, you might find it easiest to keep postings separate for each
location, and perhaps also join a Polish mailing list. Make sure that you
include surname and location of interest in the subject line so it is easily
picked up by anyone with similar interests.
Kind regards,
Bronwyn.
