The list is bilingual. Members may post in either English or German. The preferences you chose are for administrative messages from the computer that controls the mailing list (eg subscribing and unsubscribing) As one list member pointed out, there are electronic translation programs you can use that will give you the sense of messages in a language you don't understand.
