It's a little bit difficult without knowing the original text.
Samuel was a farmer, himself. Maybe he had an own farm and was not an
employee of another farmer . . . as I said, it's difficult to say what it
means but maybe some other members have an idea.

a Landwirt is a farmer. The word "selbst" means in translation himself. There could be a different meaning in the context of the document. It would be more understandable if we could read more from the text.
