My 2-great grandfathers name is August Heinrich Lubbers. I have discovered
August Lubbers in the Bremen ship crew lists. He was mustered as a seaman on
5 Mar 1853 with the note that he deserted. It is very likely that he left
from Bremen with the ship Julia under the captain Rosenkranz and arrived
in New York on 1 Jul 1853 and deserted and stayed in America. From this, I
have traced his line back to the year 1500 to a Hellmerk Lubbers in Varel.

This is all I know about the Lubbers in Germany. Can anyone in the area of
Varel help with some additional information on the Lubbers name in Varel?
What did they do? Were they prominent people in the town? Any other details
would be helpful.
Thank you,
Peter Lubbers
