Dear Kjetil.
I am staying in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. I am connected to a little
German Group who all have ancestors who came from Germany/Prussia in
1857,1858,1859 to South Africa. I did a quick look up, and found a Carl
Heinrich Lange who came from Prussia to South Africa in 1858. At that time
he was 34 yrs. of age. His wife's name was Auguste.
Should you be interested in him, I shall be able to supply a little info to
you.
Regards.

Hallo Klaus Vahlbruch.
A long time ago we had 4 Provinces in S.A. Now we have 9. Transvaal used to
be one of the big and rich provinces because of the Goldfields. I do not
have a list of the immigrants to the "Transvaal" now called Gauteng
(Province). If you can give me some more info, when did he come to S.A., to
which missionary society did he belong, which church group? I might be able
to get some info, but that will take time. If he belonged to the Lutheran
Church, I shall not be able to get easy access from church records, as they
only, at this stage, supply info to family members of the person you are
looking for. As a group we do not undertake to do full research other than
our own, but are willing to help with some info where we can, which we might
have. Zeerust , Marico and Malmani is quite far from Port Elizabeth where
we stay. The Eastern Cape is easier for us to research and to help someone.
I did find a Kayser, (spelling often changed) Ernst who came to S.A. in
1857, was granted land at Hannover (S.A) which is an indication that he must
have come from Hannover Germany (which is still close to your Hamburg
region).
He might have come to S.A. earlier, but when gold was discovered, people
quickly moved to the Goldfields.
Not much of help at this stage, I am afraid, but I shall try to get more
info for you.
Regards.
