Krueger / Kroeger, Groß Pankow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Dear Evelyn,

I've noticed that in our family where there are three or four given names, the name the person is called usually is the last one before the surname. Is it possible that this man was called Christian by his family?

It is entirely possible this is the same family. But I don't have any record of the person you mention. Honestly, I have not done a lot of research into this branch. I hope someone else on the list from Parchim area will have more information. Thanks for writing. Sorry I dont have more information.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what church the family belonged to in Detroit? I ask because my dad moved to Detroit ten years before his death and was a councilman at St. Johns and St. Lukes in downtown Detroit, still a very German- influenced church at that time.

Dear Penny,
I had been looking for a Carl Johann Christian Krueger/Kroeger born on Oct 10, 1833 in Mecklenburg. He married Marie Simon on May 3, 1857 in Detroit, MI. He and Marie had nine children namely: Mary Ann, Heinrich, Caroline, Carl Jr, Joseph (Joachim), August, Minna and Frederick (our grandfather). Marie died in 1884 and Carl in May 1917.
Did your relative had a brother named Carl? Did he come to the US possibly in or around 1855? Settled in Detroit, MI or nearby Macomb Co?
I had search for him since 1992, but my only clues were his 1870 Feb census and church burial record which stated he came from Mecklenburg; and his 1900 Fed census which stated he came to the US in 1854/55.
I would be willing to exchange info with you regarding our family.

1. The St. John's church thing is just a coincidence. Sorry if that was confusing. My dad's family never lived in or near Michigan, they emigrated to Milwaukee. Dad just belonged to St John's ST Luke's when he moved to Detroit to work at the Free Press in 1975. His funeral took place there when he died in 1985.

2. I really have almost no Kruger information... I am just starting with them. The info I have I got online this week was from familysearch.org, their German marriage and birth records. I found my Sophie Kruger Brede, my father's great grandmother, and her marriage to Wilhelm Brede, online there, and then some information on her parents. I did search for various Christian Krugers after I got your email but I didn't recognize a close fit.

3. Have you checked the Hamburg films? That is how I got my initial information on the Bredes, I think. I think it is possible that those records are online. My Kruger came over to Baltimore in 1871 with her husband Wilhelm Brede **and many other family members** and then came to Milwaukee. They were an extremely religious group and actually were religious refugees, I think.

4. I am excited to be in touch. I am not doing much work on genealogy now because of family responsibilities, but I will be getting back to it soon. Do you live in Michigan?

Best,

Penny
