King's German Legion question

Does anyone have any info on what happened to the KGL after the Napoleonic Wars were over? I have found just a small bit of info about most of them being absorbed into the Hanoverian Army.

Also, would the Hannoverian Army have records in the British Archives between 1816 and 1837, or would I need to look at Hannoverian records for those years? If I need to look at Hannoverian records, where would I begin? Specifically, I'm looking for records (pension, transfers, enlistments) on the soldiers of the 2nd Light Battallion that was decimated at La Haye Sainte during the Battle of Waterloo.

  Thanks & Happy New Year!

The information you received concerning the return of the soldiers to the re-founded Hannoverian army is correct.
You should contact Niederschsisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, Am Archiv 1, 30169 Hannover where numerous files, also from the 2nd Light Batallion, are kept. I am sure that also British sources exist, but I dont have any idea which Archives to contact.

A couple suggestions for affordable detailed information:

George Nafziger
8801 Tammy Drive
West Chester, OH 45069
(Widely acclaimed author of military history, especially Napoleonic period.
Provides regimental histories and orders of battle, as well as uniform
information when possible for a small fee of $10-20).

This is George's website - boy the cost of his orders of battle are
extremely reasonable. I ordered one of these years ago for like $10 and was
ecstatic with the details that it gave about the regiment at that time. NOW
- realize he is one of the major historians of the Napoleonic period that
has published quite a bit. A great individual, too.

A second source for uniform information:

Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection
Attn: Mr. Peter Harrington
Brown University Library
Providence, RI 02912
(Collection of information on military uniforms to include artwork,
descriptions, some unit histories. Copies are $.25, recommend sending a $10
donation per inquiry.)
http://www.brown.edu/Facilities/University_Library/collections/askb/

Imagine being one of the wealthiest girls in New England and deciding to
collect soldiers - then have a professor come over and tell you that the
soldiers you have are not painted the proper way for that type of regiment.
Well what do you do??? You undertake collecting military images of
regiments from around the world - then make sure your soldiers are properly
painted.

Here is that girl's collection - it is a resource that is truly amazing. The
librarian assigned to the collection is a godsend of information.

Hope that those sources help.

Thanks Jurgen & Rod.

I wasn't sure if the Hauptstaatsarchiv had these types of records, so thanks for the confirmation.

For those who don't know, the British National Archives has an extensive web site where you can search for and order copies of documents. I have used it for some of my KGL research from the Napoleonic period.
