The names Byse or Byese are not present in Germany.
But there a lot Büse, this sounds like Byse. But problem is, the name Büse you can find whole Germany, mainly in Westphalia in the Paderborn - Brakel area.
Maybe an other have an other idea.
Good luck,
Werner
Dear Raymond,
also like Werner, I think that the name "Byse" isn't common in Germany. Mabe it was a form of Beis, Beise, Bse, ...
The only information from the 1901 census isn't very much. Maybe you are able to get the original marriage- or death-certificate from an English church-book or governmental institution. I think that there would be some more information in it. Or you know the ship he has worked on. I have heard that you can search in the Bremerhaven navigation musem for the crews of German ships.
I think a little bit more information would help.
Good luck with your further research and kindly regards from Langenhagen, Germany,
Bjrn
