Hi Janice:
Even in the 1800's northern Germany had a lot of people. We need more
information to be of much help.
1. What was her full name? Reason, many people were known by the 2nd
or even 3rd given name. To make it worse, some had nick names to add
to the list.
2. Was she married before or after arriving in the States? Did she
travel with her spouse?
3. Did she have any relatives? This helps narrow down the list of
people she may have traveled with. Or the family she was a part of in
Germany.
4. Facts on relatives, i.e. full names, birth dates, their spouses and
facts on them. This helps confirm other information. If you find a
Johanna with the correct birthdate and another person with the same
name as a (sister) and that sister's birthdate is correct, you have
made a connection which has a high chance of being right.
5. Other spelllings of names. English spellings, particularly in the
States is often much different. Fuch Fusch Hauschild

6. Is there any group of German immigrants in Concordia who come from
a particular part of Germany? I can give you an example of this in my
own ancestry, however, I found that out after the fact. I got the
1852 census of my GF's hometown in Germany and a large number of the
surnames were very much the same as in the town my GF settled in here
in the U.S. Further examination revealed that it was not a
coincidence. I found a dozen people, same names, same birth dates,
etc. in both Germany and the town where my GF settled, and many of them
were his cousins.
I believe everyone on this list is willing to help, just give us a
little more information.

Hi Janice,
I found one "Johana Fuchs" born November 1837 in Germany, listed as immigrated in 1872, and married in 1852. She was widowed in 1900 and living in Davis, Lafayette, Missouri. It lists that she had 10 children and 9 were still living at the time. In that census her son John (born May 1867, Germany) was listed as immigrating the same year as his mother. She also had a son Edward (born Jan 1883 in Missouri) and a daughter Martha (born Dec 1890 in Missouri) living with her.
Working backward, in 1880 I found a Christian Fuchs (born abt 1830 - Prussia) and wife "Hannah" Fuchs (born abt 1838 - Prussia) in Freedom, Lafayette, Missouri. They had these children: Henry 1863 - Prussia, Mary 1865 - Prussia, John 1867 - Prussia, Christina 1870 - Prussia, Bettie 1874 - Missouri , Emma 1876 - Missouri, Earnest 1879 - Missouri
Does this sound like your Johanna?
It would take some work to look through the ship lists, to see if some of these family members traveled together around 1872 ....Christian Fuchs with wife Johanna and children Henry, Mary, John, Christian. Of course the parents could have traveled on different ships.

It was found that Johanna Hauschild was born in Heeslingen, Hanover, Germany Nov, 1837. She married Christian Fuchs about 1852. Does anyone have access to the Schubert Kopulationsregister for that town who could look up that marriage? Or can any one look this up through other records? Janice is looking for the names of their parents and precise marriage date.

I rechecked notes and it is stated that JOHANNA Christina Adelheild Hauschild married Johann CHRISTIAN Conrad Fuchs in 1856.
She had listed marriage year as 1852 on the census.

That is a great find for Janice. Very interesting to see the pieces fall into place like that.
The full name of Hanna Hauschildt's husband was Johann Christian Conrad Fuchs, son of Carsten Heinrich Fuchs and Johanna Sophia Knieling.
He was born 4 Dec 1829 and baptised 26 Dec 1829 in Steddorf. Flachsberg was the name of the Fuch's family farm near Steddorf, according to Janice.
I wonder if there would be a Schubert Kopulationsregister for that area which would have the marriage records? I know these marriage register books exist for other areas of Germany, but I don't
know if that is true for all places.
