Hi All,
I am a bit confused and maybe double posting, both in English and German
(using a Dutch-German dictionary) about the same search for ancestors. I
think it happened because I was confusing two lists, Hannover and Hessen.
I received a positive response on the Hessen list within hours. It included
the e-mail address of the responder. Since I was getting hourly many
messages that did not concern my topic I quickly cancelled my subscription
to the Hessen list and wrote to the responder directly. This is something I
am probably not supposed to do. I must stay with the list. Right?
My topic:
Johann Casper Bekker was one of my forefathers. He came from Muenden in
Waldeck (as Johann Caspar Becker) and married in 1776 Lammertje van Bruggen
in Zoelmon (Beusichem/Beusekom).
Coincidentally (by way of Google) I found another Becker (Maria Margaretha)
close to Zoelmond in Ravenswaaij (Culemborg) where she married Claas de
Klerk, also in 1776.
Of course I wondered if there was a connection between the two individuals.
The response I received via the Hessen List from Mr. Lothar Wolff was the
fact that those two were brother and sister and that the parents were Berndt
Georg Becker and Annna Maria Bursch.
My Additional Questions: Where can I find more information about this
family? Church registers, Town archives, Religion, military records,
Pprofession, reasons for moving to Holland, other siblings? Contacts between
the German branch and the Dutch immigrants? Where did the Becker family
live?
I hope someone can steer me in the right direction, both in finding as much
information as possible, but also give some help navigating this wonderful
list service.
Thank you,
Jurrie Frederik Bekker
