I'm back

Hi Everybody: I am a back to Florida, back online and back on the list. And guess what? I finally met Fred Rump. (That should interest you, John) Several members of our Charlotte County Gen. Society decided to form a German SIG for all of SW Florida (the Gulf Coast from Tampa to Naples). A surprising number of people showed up - from Sarasota, Fort Myers, etc. as well as many from Port Charlotte, and, of course, Fred from Naples. He was elected/appointed? Vice-President. We have decided to meet every 2 months - next meeting 06 Jan 07. Anyone from that area interested in, or needing help with, German genealogy is welcome, whether you belong to a society or not. Come join us. Jane

Greetings Jane

I myself just returned from a brief engagement out of town, or I would have piped up earlier. A German SIG in the SW corner of Florida, what on earth is going on? And the Rumpster himself leading the charge in person, as opposed to by proxy? This can only get better as more details dribble in. Heck, consider yours truly signed and delivered in absentia, if you can overlook the stickler that I inhabit a shoreline 2000+ miles from your SIG's HQ. No wonder our fearless leader has been such a stranger of late ... he has bigger fish to fry! Tell him he's overdue for a visit to the colonies, you know, the place he founded many moons ago (the duchy of H-L).

So tell us, how did your New England getaway go? Clear all the cobwebs from ye old runic's cube (sic)? Now you did have access to all the amenities the modern world has to offer, and weren't tooling with quill and ink by way of an antique Revere lantern the whole time, right? Obviously you steered clear of state Senators barreling down rain soaked bridges in the dead of night (yes I know, I'm terrible).

As for the alleged VP Rump sighting, I suspect - but don't tell anyone - that that 40' mobile castle he drives finally blew a tire not far from your stomping grounds, and he simply moseyed in and took over (call it making the best of a weak hand). I could be wrong, but only Fred would know for sure.

Jb

Many German nationals have purchased residences in that area of Florida. It's a very popular vacation place among Germans.
M.

Vacations and second residences true, but don't write it off too quickly. Rump may be leading some sort of movement down there, just what kind I'm not sure. How else can you explain he and Jane agreeing on anything? (though that new genealogical e-mag he propped recently was rather nice).

Conspiratorially, Jb

Good morning JB, fine to see you again. Hopefully you have had a good time, so do I. A little request, please be so good as to try to use more simple words in your postings, so that it is easier for the native people of our little "Kuhdorf" to follow you.
Kind regards to you and have a nice weekend,
Karl

Hello Jane & J.B.,

Welcome back:)

Look forward to hearing the always interesting opinions and ideas.

On another note... Naples, Florida and Fred Rump...

And you all will probobly find this a silly scribe...

I am pretty certain Fred Rump found me silly some years back. (Not meant to offend F.R.)
O.k. I admidt to the occassional supreme silly:)

A Feldhaus decendent lives in the vacinity of Naples. I once suggested Fred Rump look her up ...

Had the (I admidt) supremely silly idea that since Feldhaus makes an appearence in his family...that he might recognize some sort of Feldhaus trait in her... LOL...

Long story short..

A newpaper article mentions Teresa:

Wouldn't that be a funny coincidence if this Auther Rutenberg connects to Rautenberg family search mentioned on this list?

Barbie-Lew

On occassion its good to be silly

My apologies Karl. Now that you mention it, I'm sure that I employ too many colloquialisms and figures of speech [Clichs + Redefiguren] and even slang when I write. Our cursed American polyglot [Polyglotten Sprache + meine Ausdrucksweise] allows for a complete re-branding / re-stamping of the Oxford base, but trust me when I tell you, you and our happy Kuhdorf are not missing a thing, particularly when it comes to Jb (look no further than what was written below as evidence). On the other hand, it is encouraging to know that a few at least are still reading my spiels (Anglo or Deutsch).

But since you cited it, what was alluded to earlier can be explained in simpler English like this: Fred Rump and Jane Swan got together recently in Florida (under rather "suspicious" circumstances, if you get my drift), and the EARTHQUAKE that resulted from it was felt clear out here on the shores of SoCal. Rumor has it that this latest variant of PAX AMERIKANA may actually last, that is as long as their SIG (bund) does. Verstehe jetzt? lol

So you are proclaiming the duchy of H-L ein Kuhdorf? Most perfectly stated! Count me in as an early, card-carrying member. Until the day we can have that ice cold Amerikanische Lager-Bier <g> on the shores of Kauai (you bring the Broyhan + Lindener Spezial to keep things uneven) ... Salut!

Jb

PS. Barbie-Lew, IMO your spirit is like a ray of sunshine. Fortunately for the group -- oops Kuhdorf -- it more than offsets the old world Prussian streak a few of us (eyes upon Jb) bring. Then again, I can laugh with the best of 'em, once hostilities subside.
