How is your research going?

Hello All,

I hope you had a good start into the New year and are ready to continue
with the search for your ancestors !!

What is the present stage of your research ??
Are you making any progress ?

Usually, you start with getting all possible information from
your family members.

Then you continue with the county, states etc. archives to get all the
available info from your country..

When you have exhausted all these resources, you probably will try
to find more info from passenger lists. Unfortunately, in most
cases there is not much additional information available and very
often you will just get the useless answer "Germany" or "Prussia"
as the place of origin..

Now, to continue, it could be getting quite complicated and many
will give up on that stage because of language and budget limitations..

But, we will NEVER give up and the internet can be a wonderful help
for digging deeper into the German archives.

Many of them are available on line, however they are a "nightmare"
for foreigners to dig in..

We have started to add the emigrants from the Baden Wuerttemberg area
of Germany to our database and so far we have over
3,000 emigrants to South America.

Emigrants to Australia and North America will follow..

If you find your ancestors in our database:
http://www.germanyroots.com/Ancestors_Database

you can add your information with the "edit" mode..

You can also add the surnames you are researching
to our database.

Our database is visited by thousandths of people every month
from all over the world and adding the surnames you are researching will
increase your chance for breaking down another "brick-wall"..

Happy hunting and have a good year with lots of successes,

Wolf [Zscheile]

Thanks Wolf for the email and the website. I could add a couple of names of ancestors of mine that I know absolutely nothing about other than their name shows up on my grandmothers death certificate as "Vater", "Mutter", and "Der Verstorbene war -- Witwe".
I've exhausted my research for the time being as other projects and family matters are needing my attention. My thought is, could it possibly help someone else who may be researching the same names? My grandmother may have had brothers or sisters that I'm unaware of. I'll add them but it will take me some time . The names are: Vater - Johannes Lohse, verstorben zuletzt wohnhaft in Bremen. Mutter - Dorothea Lohse, geborene Arfmann, verstorben zuletzt wohnhaft in Bremen, Der Verstorbene war - Witwe von Friedrich Ralle.
My grandmother died 26 August 1942 in Bremen. My father had died in Tampa 1937 when I was 3 and I never inquired about these matters when my Mom was alive.
Thanks again for providing the website.
Eric Ralle, Tampa Florida.

Wolf, our research isn't doing that well. My wife's mother and father came from that part of the Austria-Hungary Empire that became Yugoslavia after WWI. The so-called BANAT.
The mother came from Ernsthausen and her father came from Neuzina (15-20 km east of Ernsthausen) We have ship's records showing they emigrated in 1928 from "Yugoslavia" and that's as far back as we can go. Both are now deceased so we can't ask anymore.
My ancenstors, Hinsperger/Hinsberger/Hinschberger came from Enchenberg in the Lorraine area which is now part of France but was at one time Germany. I have traced my roots back to the early 1700s.
Thanks for all your efforts, Wolf.

Hi Wolf,

Thanks for asking.

I haven't done too much lately as I slowed down to take a DNA test. Very interesting.

I also have been in a lot of pain from my back. I have been trying to just keep up with my mailing lists. As soon as I am able I need to finish a database job that I volunteered for before getting back to research.

I hope you and everyone else on the list has a good and fruitful year.

Bobbi

Hello, Susan,

at first, the phrase " Schule zum Halben Taucher" didn't make much sense to
me, but after some investigation, with the help of a few good Germans
  it seems to be alright..

You have to divide this sentence into two parts..
I think the words got twisted around a bit and the first part should mean
"halbe Schule" see my article in our WIKI:
http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/Halbe_Schule

Then, the next part would be "Taucher", which is an area (forest) near Bautzen
and even now, there is still the "Taucher" cemetery near Bautzen..

Does it make sense to you now ?
If you have more questions, just keep asking.. We have a lot very smart helpers..

Have a nice evening, wherever you are,

Wolf
