I have written to church archives but have not had any reply.
I have referred to the German infobell and found families living in Barlissen, a little village in the vicinity of G�ttingen a few kilometres from where my ancestor lived in Steinlah.
I have had a response from an English speaking member of the family who lives in Kiel, he tells me that their family uses the names I am interested in (Franz, Heinrich,Wilhelm). Unfortunately, the family is unable to assist - they agree that Gustav Flemme who died in 1960 would have known the family history.
Where are the civil registers held? Which town library has the civil archives for Lower Saxony? Most of you seem to refer to books which list names, am I supposed to buy a book?
